Estate Planning Services
Every plan at Laurel Law & Planning starts with a conversation about your family, your assets, and what matters most to you. From there, we design a plan that fits your life and keeps working as it changes.
We meet with clients in person in Marin, Sonoma, San Francisco, and the East Bay, and online anywhere in California.
Life & Legacy Planning Session
This is where every plan begins. We review your family, assets, and goals together, walk through your options, and you'll know the exact cost before any work begins.
Estate Planning
A complete plan built around your family, your assets, and your goals.
Revocable Living Trusts
A revocable living trust holds your assets during your lifetime and passes them to your loved ones privately, without court-supervised probate, when assets are properly transferred into it. You stay in control and can change it at any time.
Wills
A will names who receives your property and, for parents, nominates guardians for minor children. Paired with a trust, a pour-over will catches any assets left outside it.
Powers of Attorney
A financial power of attorney names someone you trust to manage your finances, accounts, and property if you can't, so your family can step in without going to court for a conservatorship.
Advance Healthcare Directives
An advance health care directive names who makes medical decisions for you if you can't and records your wishes for care, with a HIPAA authorization so your loved ones can speak with your doctors.
Kids Protection Plan
Guardian nominations plus short-term caregiver instructions and authorizations, so your children are cared for by the people you choose if something happens to you, starting from the very first hours of an emergency.
Young Adult Plans
When your child turns 18, you lose automatic authority to help them in a medical or financial emergency. A Young Adult Plan includes an advance health care directive, a financial power of attorney, and a HIPAA authorization, so the people your child chooses can step in when it matters. Your child stays in control, and the documents respect their privacy.
Trust Funding Guidance
A trust only works if your assets are actually in it. At signing, we give you step-by-step guidance for transferring your assets into your trust, so your plan works in practice, not just on paper.
Family Wealth Legacy Interview
A recorded personal message to your loved ones about what matters most to you and why, made at your plan delivery meeting.
Plan Reviews & Ongoing Care
Life changes, and your plan should too. Every client receives a complimentary plan review every three years. VIP Membership adds an annual review and an updated Family Wealth Inventory.
Business Formation
California LLC and corporation formation, plus DBA filings, including articles, bylaws, and operating agreements, so your new venture starts on solid legal footing.
Common Questions
-
Many California families choose a revocable living trust because a will alone generally still goes through probate, which is public, slow, and costly. A trust can pass your assets privately and without court involvement, as long as your assets are transferred into it. The right choice depends on your family, your assets, and your goals, which is what we work through together in your Life & Legacy Planning Session.
